  • Ajinomoto Fine-Techno (AFT), established in October 1998 to combine Ajinomoto’s electronic materials and functional chemicals divisions, merged in August 1999 with Hokuetsu Carbon Industry Co., Ltd. As a result of these strategic mergers, AFT now comprises three of Ajinomoto’s most important specialty chemical businesses: electronic materials, functional chemicals and activated carbon products. Each of these business areas is handled by a separate, vertically integrated unit responsible for activities ranging from R&D and manufacturing to marketing and sales. AFT serves a wide range of markets, including basic industries such as automobiles, chemicals, construction materials, inks and paints, oil production, water treatment, and wire and cable manufacture, as well as electrical and computer component producers.

Our electronic materials unit markets unique products with a focus on the print circuit board industry, including ABF (Ajinomoto Build-up Film), the most technically advanced film-type insulation layer formation material, and solder resist ink for TAB.

Functional chemicals cover a broad spectrum of eco-friendly stabilizers and flame retardants. Besides taking full advantage of our long-nurtured resin additive expertise, we also seek synergies with outside technologies. Notable products based on our original technologies include Ajicure, our original one-component epoxy resin hardener, and Ajisper, an advanced polymer-type dispersant for paint and ink.

Activated carbon & related products have been an Ajinomoto specialty for over 70 years. We produce a comprehensive range of wood, coal and coco shell carbons for treatment of air, waste and ground water as well as purification of manufactured products such as food and pharmaceuticals. Most recently, we have expanded into absorptive synthetic resins, products experiencing current high rates of growth due to increasing demand for decoloration and heavy metal removal.

Since our establishment in 1998, AFT has reinforced our teams of technological specialists and concurrently achieved ISO 9002 quality assurance certification for our electronics materials and activated carbon units. We have advanced R&D and manufacturing facilities at two locations in Japan, and sales and marketing offices in Brazil, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
